BMG Primer Pocket Bushing   Prototype   Rev2, Re-Test   Rev2, Result   Tools   Results   Velocity Data

The prototypes were made

I fitted them, and loaded three Federal 215 Magnum primers and 3 Winchester Large Rifle Magnum primers. I can't recall what powder I used, it was one of the Vitavuori BMG powders or US869.

The result was disqualification for the Federal 215 Magnum primers. One fired, one misfired and one hang-fired, ignition occuring around two seconds after the trigger pull. Not confidence inspiring.

The Winchester Large Rifle Magnum showed promise. All 3 ignited, no misfire, no hang-fire.

I was surprised the primers were not pierced. Even though I measured the firing pin protrusion before-hand, and it was within spec for bolt action rifles, I expected that the heavier firing pin would pierce the primer.
