I was following some links, reading up on the origin and history of the 700NE, when I came across a web page documenting one man's attempt at making 700NE brass from 50 BMG brass.

which led on to this

which set the gears in my head turning, because it's 2025 and I'm down to my last box of CCI 35's, with none available anywhere, and no retailers can give me a re-stocking ETA. The 700 NE does not have as much powder as a .50 BMG, but it comes to within a respectable percentage, so it's not impossible that a Large Rifle primer can ignite a .50BMG powder charge. Could it be ?

I contacted a machine shop, and they agreed to try making the bushings by cutting the primer pockets out of used cases. Which was a lot of trouble to do, high failure rate, broken bits, etc., so the machinist suggested he CNC from bar stock. Which he did.

While that was being done, I found another, similar project using Large Rifle Magnum primers in a .50 Vestal

which inspired some confidence in my idea.
